H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide), naturally occurring in crude oil, brings a challenging corrosion issue, particularly in wet environments. Metallic reactions with H2S can induce sulphide stress cracking (SSC), a form of hydrogen embrittlement, and Hydrogen Induced Stress Corrosion (HISC).
Advanced surface treatments such as Bodycote’s Tech12 and Tech23 ceramic coatings, which are impervious to H2S, can provide excellent protection from H2S and offer up to 25 times life extension. Also, components manufactured by Bodycote’s Powdermet® process can offer bespoke materials to resist H2S attack.
